PARADISE LOST by Jan Hendrix

The show explores Jan's response to the transformation of Kamay Botany Bay, in Sydney, Australia.  Named by Captain James Cook when he landed there in 1770, Botany Bay acquired its name thanks to the huge number of plants recorded and collected there by the botanists who accompanied Cook on this his first voyage to the Pacific: Sir Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander.

Inspired by Cook's expedition and the surviving botanical specimens held by the Natural History Museum in London, Jan explores how the landscape has changed in 250 years. Once teeming with life, it is now unrecognisable, with Sydney's international airport taking centre stage.

FRANK STELLA: What you See is What you See

Stella, whilst prominent as both an abstract painter and sculptor, also made major contributions to the history of modern print and no biography or survey of the artist would be complete without ack nowledging this rich side of his artistic practice. Stella himself commented 'the prints are in all of my work'.

It was, however, Stella's collaboration with the master printer and publisher Kenneth Tyler that produced one of the great partnerships in modern American Art. Tyler and Stella first began to print together in 1967, at Gemini G.E.L in Los Angeles, and later at Tyler Graphics LTD in New York.  Tyler became such an intrinsic part of Stella's print work that when Tyler Graphics LTD shuttered its doors in 2001, Stella stopped making prints altogether.
