Philip Barlow solo exhibition

Everard Read London presents an exhibition of new paintings by South African artist, Philip Barlow.
For this exhibition, the artist turns his attention to the streets and beaches of his Cape Town in his ongoing quest to frame and capture in oil paint, the moment when light, form and colour collide; that elusive moment in each of his paintings where time is suspended and distilled to convey a sense of gracefulness and “glory”.
Barlow continues his exploration of bokeh – the aesthetic quality of out-of-focus blur in a photograph - deftly harnessing the technique to conjure light-filled beach scenes or cityscapes that present an intriguing and ambiguous version of reality.

Brett Murray solo exhibition

Described as "the dark prince of South African pop (art)", Brett Murray is one of South Africa’s leading artists, whose sculptural works - mostly in bronze, steel and, more recently, marble - respond to his urge to expose the absurdities of the powerful through satire and take aim at the culture wars, the clash between Afrocentrism and Eurocentrism, and the old and the new South Africas.
